ABOUT THE NARRATIVE LAB
The Narrative Lab is an R&D pilot designed to build a repeatable songwriter development system. Over a 5 month period, we will test methods that support songwriting, collaboration, production and audience engagement to evaluate their impact and effectiveness.
The project evaluation will be centred around three core areas: Creative Development, Collaboration & Audience Engagement.
Participating songwriters will receive mentoring, feedback from peers & guest songwriters, live performance opportunities, studio time to develop songs written as part of the project, and access to a new network of songwriters. Alongside this, we expect the participants to develop as songwriters as they explore new techniques and take part in a range of activities.
The project will include:
- Regular songwriting assignments (solo & collaborative)
- Feedback from peers & industry professionals
- Participation in events and sessions
- Trial direct-to-fan engagement (in person and online)
- Sessions with Guest Songwriting Professionals
- Studio time to develop songs written as part of the project
All participants must agree to share feedback and data relevant to the R&D element of the project. This includes feedback on your experiences as we trial different approaches, analytics and data from online/social media platforms as we trial direct-to-fan content, and any other relevant information.
Applicant Criteria
Applicants must be:
- Over 18 years old
- Already writing songs and able to provide evidence of their works (e.g. recordings)
- Willing to participate in regular in-person and online sessions throughout the duration of the project. In-person sessions will take place in the Liverpool City Region.
- Willing to provide honest and accurate feedback and data during the project
Songwriters of all genres, experience level and career stage are welcome to apply.
We actively want to work with a diverse group of creatives. We encourage applications from songwriters of ALL backgrounds and skill-sets.
Timeframe
The Narrative Lab will take place from November 2026 through to March 2027. Participants must be able to commit to taking part for the full length of the project. Timings for activities will be tailored to participants schedules as much as possible.
